Gavin Baker

Ph.D. Student
Aerospace Engineering

During Gavin's time as an undergraduate physics student he minored in mathematics and aerospace engineering. He performed research in the materials and nanoscience laboratory at South Dakota State University. This research was primarily focused on the synthesis and analysis of Heusler alloys exhibiting half-metallic and spin-gapless semiconductor properties for application to spintronic technologies. His capstone research project was a computational fluid dynamic study on flame holder stability in a scramjet engine with varying cavity geometries. This project was done in conjunction with SDSU and the Air Force Research Laboratory. Gavin's current research interest is in novel control framework for space-based orbital debris remediation systems. Outside of school and research his hobbies include weight training, reading, chess, and hiking.
